Investigators said Rivera hit a metal sewer grate, lost control and collided with a barrier wall, sustaining head trauma. Police from the 104th Precinct responded to a 911 call for a collision on the eastbound Long Island Expressway outer roadway ramp, east of 69th Street, where they found Rivera lying on the roadway with a serious head injury.
The rider was identified as David Rivera
The NYPD identified the rider as David Rivera, 49, of Athboy Drive in Marlboro, an Ulster County town south of Poughkeepsie.
EMS pronounced Rivera dead at the scene
EMS responded to the crash location and pronounced Rivera dead at the scene. Police said there had been no arrests, and the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad continued to investigate.
