Police described a wrong-way turn before the collision

Police accounts published by amNY and the Daily News identified the rider as Andy Peralta, 32. Those reports said Peralta turned from northbound Jerome Avenue onto West Mosholu Parkway South in the wrong direction as an MTA bus driver was traveling east, and the collision involved the front driver-side corner of the bus.
Peralta suffered severe head trauma and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died.
Early and later accounts described the movement differently
An April 9 Daily News report said the rider was making a U-turn on a scooter near East Mosholu Parkway. Later Daily News and amNY reports said Peralta turned left from Jerome Avenue onto West Mosholu Parkway South and continued the wrong way on the one-way street.
A Bedford Park junction by the elevated 4 train
The official record places the crash at West Mosholu Parkway South and Jerome Avenue. amNY described the site as within the NYPD's 52nd Precinct and by the elevated Mosholu Parkway 4 train station; the Daily News described the area as Bedford Park.
Peralta was reported to be a delivery worker heading home
amNY reported that published accounts said Peralta was a delivery driver on his way home. The Daily News reported that he delivered for Uber Eats for more than five years, lived with his mother in University Heights, and had bought the scooter with her help.
amNY reported that the MTA bus was operated by a 30-year-old female driver. Police said the driver remained at the scene, about 20 passengers were aboard, and no additional injuries were reported.
Records and reports used different labels for the two vehicles
The city record describes Peralta's vehicle as a 2025 Taizhou motorcycle, with its driver headed west, and describes the bus as a 2019 Nova Bus, with its driver headed east. News reports described Peralta's ride as a Zhilong scooter or motorcycle and the bus as an MTA Bx28.
The official record cited traffic control and speed
The crash record lists traffic control disregarded as the crash-level contributing factor. In the motorcycle record, police also recorded unsafe speed and an unlicensed driver.
The Daily News reported that officers had tried to stop Peralta about four minutes before the crash after seeing him travel against traffic near East 205th Street and Jerome Avenue. The report said an NYPD spokesman did not confirm an active pursuit when Peralta turned into oncoming traffic.
Police continued the investigation
amNY reported that police had made no arrest after the crash and that the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad continued to investigate.
