What We Know

A 28-year-old e-bike rider was killed and four people were injured at West 125th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem on March 19, 2026. Police and prosecutors said Kevin Crosby, 49, drove a red Hyundai Tucson east in the bus lane at high speed, hit two delivery workers on e-bikes from behind, and continued into other occupied and parked vehicles near the Apollo Theater. The city crash record lists illegal drugs as a contributing factor, and lists illegal drugs and unsafe speed for the Hyundai driver. Crosby was charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence; prosecutors later said he had used marijuana and PCP. His attorney argued that steering and brake problems contributed to the crash.

Police described a high-speed path through a busy Harlem block

The city crash record places the crash at 8:05 p.m. on March 19, 2026, at West 125th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, and records one bicyclist killed and four people injured. Police told Gothamist that Kevin Crosby drove a Hyundai Tucson eastbound in the bus lane at high speed and hit two e-bike riders from behind before continuing into an empty police car, a parked Lexus, a tractor trailer and a Toyota RAV4.

ABC7 reported that surveillance video showed the driver moving east in the bus lane at high speed as sparks flew and pedestrians scattered. The same report said the two delivery workers were hit from behind within seconds of one another.

The rider who died was reported to be a Bronx delivery worker

ABC7, CBS New York and Gothamist identified the rider who died as 28-year-old Darly Zacarias of the Bronx. Other coverage used different versions of his name: the Daily News used Darlyn Zacarias, and a later West Side Spirit article used Zacarias Darly.

The Daily News, using the name Darlyn Zacarias, reported that his family believed he was working as an app delivery worker when he was killed, and that he had a young son. ABC7 reported that a friend said Zacarias and his roommate had grown up together in the Dominican Republic and worked long days as food delivery workers.

Four other people were injured

Police said the other e-bike rider, a 33-year-old man, was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition. Gothamist reported that two people in a Lexus and the driver of a Toyota RAV4 were also taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.

Prosecutors alleged drug use and dangerous speed

The city crash record lists illegal drugs as a contributing factor and lists illegal drugs and unsafe speed for the Hyundai driver. The Daily News reported that prosecutors said Crosby had smoked marijuana and PCP before driving.

The New York Post reported that Crosby's attorney argued mechanical issues with the Hyundai's steering and brakes contributed to the crash.
