Driver accused of murder in fatal Bed-Stuy fender-bender flight

Prosecutors later accused Chaquasia Pigford of driving into Tiffany Cifuni after a fender-bender at Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Van Buren Street, where the city crash record says a 32-year-old pedestrian was killed late May 24.

A 32-year-old woman was killed while walking on Marcus Garvey Boulevard near Van Buren Street in Brooklyn on a Saturday night. According to the police report, a licensed driver in a 2024 Jeep SUV traveling east hit her while she was outside the intersection, causing fatal crush injuries to her entire body. The crash also involved two parked vehicles.

A late-night collision became a fatal confrontation

The city crash record lists one pedestrian, a 32-year-old woman, killed at Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Van Buren Street in Brooklyn at 11:55 p.m. on May 24, 2025.

Press accounts citing police said Tiffany Cifuni got out after a fender-bender and approached the other driver. Prosecutors later said Chaquasia Pigford refused to speak with Cifuni, then accelerated and drove into her.

Tiffany Cifuni was pregnant and headed home from a concert

Family members told reporters that Cifuni was coming home from the Beyoncé concert at MetLife Stadium. Her husband, James Cifuni, told the Daily News that she was pregnant, and relatives said she had recently shared the news with family.

Prosecutors later said Cifuni was 12 weeks pregnant. ABC7 identified her as Tiffany Cifuni and quoted relatives describing her as the center of their family.

Reports identified the vehicles in the fender-bender and flight

Press reports said Cifuni had been driving a Toyota 4Runner and that Pigford was driving a 2016 Chevy Trax. Prosecutors said the Chevy had been stolen.

The city crash record lists sport utility vehicles and a sedan in the crash record. Press accounts said the driver later collided with parked vehicles and a Jeep Grand Cherokee before fleeing on foot.

Police later made an arrest

Early police reports said the driver left the crash site and that no arrest had been made. In June, police arrested Chaquasia Pigford, 28, of Brooklyn.
