Driver Charged After Fatal East New York Turn

On Jan. 24, 2025, shortly before 9 a.m., police said Megan Martin, 30, was driving a Nissan Pathfinder eastbound on Blake Avenue and turning left onto Pennsylvania Avenue in East New York when she hit Janet Henriquez, 57, as Henriquez crossed the street. The official crash record lists Henriquez as a pedestrian at the intersection crossing with the signal and records failure to yield right-of-way for the crash. EMS took Henriquez to Kings County Hospital; the Daily News reported she was initially in stable condition but died later that day. Police said Martin stayed at the scene and was arrested in April after an investigation on charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.

The collision happened at 8:50 a.m. on Jan. 24, 2025, at Blake and Pennsylvania avenues in Brooklyn. Police told the Daily News that Megan Martin was driving a Nissan Pathfinder eastbound on Blake Avenue and attempting to turn left onto Pennsylvania Avenue when she hit Janet Henriquez, who was crossing the street.
The official record identifies Henriquez as a 57-year-old pedestrian at the intersection and says she was crossing with the signal. It records one pedestrian death and no other injuries.

Henriquez died after being taken to a hospital
EMS took Henriquez to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, the Daily News reported. Police said her condition worsened and she died at the hospital later that day.
Police said Martin, 30, lives in Queens and stayed at the scene after the crash.
