The official record lists traffic-control disregard for both moving drivers and alcohol involvement for the Audi driver. Khan was charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated.
A predawn crash left two Toyota occupants dead
The official record places the crash at 4:24 a.m. on June 5, 2023, at 117th Street and 111th Avenue in Queens, and records two motorists killed.
Police told reporters that Tamir Khan was driving a 2013 Audi A4 north on 117th Street when he hit a Toyota Camry traveling west on 111th Avenue. Police said the impact sent the Toyota into a wooden pole, and that Khan continued driving and hit two empty parked cars.
The men who died were in the Toyota
The city record lists a 64-year-old male driver and a 71-year-old male front-seat passenger as killed. The Daily News identified the Toyota driver as Inderdeo John, while the Post rendered his name as John Inderdeo. The Post and a later Daily News account identified the passenger as Charles Harris.
The Daily News first reported that the passenger was critically injured after the crash. The next day, the Post and the Daily News reported that Harris had died from his injuries.
Prosecutors cited intoxication and a stop-sign violation
According to a criminal complaint quoted by the Daily News, Khan told police, “I was driving,” and, “I blew the stop sign and I think I killed the man.” The complaint said police found him with bloodshot and watery eyes and the smell of alcohol on his breath.
The Post reported that police said Khan’s blood-alcohol concentration was .08 or more when officers arrested him. The official record lists traffic-control disregard for both moving drivers, alcohol involvement for the Audi driver, and driver inattention or distraction for the Toyota driver.
Khan faced manslaughter and DWI charges
Police charged Khan with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated. At his Queens Criminal Court arraignment, Judge Scott Dunn set bail at $75,000, according to the Post; the Daily News later reported that relatives of Khan’s parents posted that bail.
Records describe two moving sedans and two parked sedans
The official vehicle records list the Audi driver traveling north in a 2013 Audi sedan and the Toyota driver traveling west in a 2001 Toyota sedan. Both moving drivers were recorded as going straight ahead before the crash.
The same records list damage to a parked 2018 Volkswagen sedan and a parked 2022 Toyota sedan. Police told reporters those parked cars were empty.
