Two crashes in Brooklyn CB 16 in seven days left one dead and three seriously hurt.
From March 1 to March 8 Brooklyn CB 16 saw two serious crashes.
Before dawn on March 7 a man was killed on Linden Boulevard at Rockaway Avenue. Police listed driver inattention or distraction. On March 8 a crash on Blake Avenue was tied to unsafe speed. Three people were listed as injured. Two were semiconscious with neck injuries.

According to the police report, the crash happened Sunday afternoon at 5:13 p.m. on Blake Avenue in Brooklyn. Police recorded unsafe speed as a contributing factor. A 61-year-old driver and a 62-year-old front-seat passenger were listed as injured, semiconscious, with neck injuries and complaints of pain or nausea. Another driver, 23, was listed as injured with a back injury and a complaint of pain or nausea.

We calculate these costs using a method developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA. It gives one set of costs for crashes with injuries and another for crashes with no reported injuries.
Crashes with injuries cost much more because the method includes things like lost work, medical care, and long-term harm. NHTSA says crash costs include "lost productivity, medical, legal and court costs, emergency service, insurance administration, congestion, property damage, and workplace losses."
These are estimates, not bills. "Other harm" is the part of the broader estimate that goes beyond direct bills and insurance claims. It captures pain, disability, and lost quality of life.
