Who’s Injuring and Killing Pedestrians in Bronx CB12?

Two Dead, No Excuses: Bronx Parkway Slaughter Demands Action

Two Dead, No Excuses: Bronx Parkway Slaughter Demands Action

Bronx CB12: Jan 1, 2022 - Aug 12, 2025

Blood on the Parkway

Just days ago, two men died on the Bronx River Parkway. A Mercedes changed lanes, struck a Volkswagen, then hit the scooter riders. Both men were thrown from their scooters and died at the hospital. Police charged the driver with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. The crash left the highway closed for hours. “The men were ejected from their scooters and fatally injured in the collision. Both were pronounced dead at the hospital, NYPD said.”

This is not rare. In the last twelve months, nine people have died and twelve have been seriously injured in crashes in Bronx CB12. Children, elders, cyclists, and pedestrians are all at risk.

The Numbers Do Not Lie

Since January 2022, there have been 14 deaths and 36 serious injuries on these streets. SUVs and cars caused most of the harm—killing four, injuring hundreds. Trucks and buses killed two more. Motorcycles and mopeds left bodies broken. Bikes, too, are not spared. The violence is steady. The grief is constant.

What Leaders Have Done—And Not Done

Some leaders have acted. State Senator Jamaal Bailey voted yes in committee, boosting street safety by curbing repeat speeders. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has backed red light camera expansion, but he also blocked a vote on Sammy’s Law, which would let the city lower speed limits.

The dead cannot vote. The living must speak for them.

What Comes Next

Call your council member. Call your state senator. Demand a 20 mph speed limit. Demand speed cameras on every deadly stretch. Demand action, not delay.

Every day we wait, another family risks losing someone they love.

Dinowitz Opposes NJ Driver Credits in Safety Boosting Congestion Pricing

Dinowitz Opposes Undemocratic DOT Process Not Road Diet

Council Member Eric Dinowitz voiced strong opposition to the DOT’s process, calling it 'undemocratic' and criticizing the lack of community input, though he did not oppose the road diet itself. The DOT justified the changes by citing significant crash and injury data, and pointed to successful safety improvements from similar projects elsewhere in the Bronx. Dinowitz stated, 'I have been deeply troubled throughout this process due to the constant misrepresentation of facts and the lack of responsiveness to the community.' Despite local resistance, the DOT moves forward, prioritizing safety on a corridor marked by multiple fatalities.
